Talking with NPCs and Quests

To talk to a NPC, the player may simply click on it. An illustration of the NPC will be displayed on the screen and a menu of possible "talk" options will be shown. Clicking on the desired menu item will allow the conversation with the NPC to progress. With some NPCs (and given that some requirements are met), going through the menu items can trigger quests. Advancing or completing a quest is also done in the same way: by choosing the appropriate options from the conversation menus.

Buying/Selling

Buying/selling NPC window

A player may buy or sell items to NPCs. Not all items can be bought from a NPC: they may be drops-only, crafted items, event rewards or Item Mall items. Some items cannot be sold as well. This is the case of the Visitor's Look gears.

You sell or buy an item by dragging-and-dropping items from the NPC's inventory or yours to the NPC purchase/sell window. When you are done moving the items and are satisfied with your choices, you can click on "Confirm" to process the purchase and/or sell. It is also possible to buy or sell on an item-basis without using the buy/sell window. Simply drag-and-drop from either inventories to the other and the purchase/sell will be done automatically.

When trying to buy or sell stackable items (such as arrows), you are presented a calculator-like window where you can enter the desired amount of the item you wish to add to the purchase/sell window (or directly buy/sell) right after drag-and-dropping it.

An item's price when buying or selling may depend on several factors such as the quality of the item or Discount skill from the player. For more information see: Item Prices.

Repairing

Asking the NPC to "repair items" will change your mouse into a hammer. The player, then, simply needs to click on the items to be repaired located in the inventory window (whether they are equipped or not). Note that only equipments can be repaired.

Players may also repair items by using repairing tools which can be bought from some NPCs, usually smiths.

Upgrading

Upgrading is the process of increasing an item's grade or quality level. Refining is another term very commonly used to refer to this process. While both "upgrading" and "refining" hold equivalent meanings in ROSE, the term used by NPCs in game is "upgrading". When you upgrade or refine armor, the defence and dodge rate will increase. When you upgrade or refine weapons, the attack power and accuracy will increase.

Requirements

To refine a piece of equipment, two items are required:

Success rates

When refining, reaching the first refining level will always succeed. From level 2 to 9, the refining may fail and, if it is the case, the item will be degraded or the item will be destroyed: it will disappear from the player's inventory. Moreover, the higher the refine level, the harder it is to refine the item to the next one. When items are safe from degrading or breaking they can fail but nothing happens.

   * Grade 1 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (5), degrade up to (8), break on attempt to (9)
   * Grade 2 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (4), degrade up to (8), break on attempt to (9)
   * Grade 3 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (3), degrade up to (8), break on attempt to (9)
   * Grade 4 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (2), degrade up to (7), break on attempt to and after (8)
   * Grade 5 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (2), degrade up to (7), break on attempt to and after (8)
   * Grade 6 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (2), degrade up to (7), break on attempt to and after (8)
   * Grade 7 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (1), degrade up to (6), break on attempt to and after (7)
   * Grade 8 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (1), degrade up to (6), break on attempt to and after (7)
   * Grade 9 items are safe from degrading or breaking up to (1), degrade up to (6), break on attempt to and after (7)
   * Unique Items: Refining will be Safe up to (1), may degrade up to (7), chance to break going to (8) and above.
   * Brave Items: Refining will be Safe up to (1), may degrade up to (9)
   * Event & Item Mall Items: Refining will be Safe up to (1), may degrade up to (9)

When it degrades it will degrade by 1 level with a 5% chance of 2 levels.

The following table shows the success rates of going to higher refine levels.

Refine Level 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Success rate 100% 90% 75% 55% 35% 25% 10% 5% 1%

Appraisal

Prior to the Evolution update, it was possible to get an "unidentified" equipment from a drop. Taking the item to an appraisal NPC (usually Gypsy Jewel Sellers) could help reveal some hidden stats associated with the item when it gets identified. However, this appraisal system has not been in operation since the Evolution update and these unidentified items cannot be retrieved from drops anymore.

Possible identifiable stats included: Dexterity 6, Intelligence 6, Strengh 6, Concentration 6, Sense 6, Attack Speed 8, Magic Resistance 24, Attack Power 10, Movement Speed 6, Charm 20 and more...
